Las Vegas can be an expensive city, whether for food, hotels, transportation, or shows. But you can still find cheap restaurants across the city if you know where to look. One of the best places in Las Vegas to find cheap food is downtown. For years, locals and tourists have flocked downtown for affordable restaurants, bars, and casinos.
WhileLas-Vegas-Stripis more popular these days with its mega resorts, downtown is where it all started. Here you will find some of the most famous places. For years, casinos and restaurants have tried to lure visitors away from the Strip with affordable prices and offers. These days it seems like every hotel has a deal on steak and eggs, shrimp cocktails, and prime rib.
In recent years, however, downtown Las Vegas has undergone a revitalization. New resorts, restaurants, breweries and bars seem to be popping up all the time. Unfortunately, prices have risen and many offers have disappeared. But if you know where to look, you can still find cheap restaurants under $10, especially on Fremont Street. This is my list of12 of the best cheap restaurants on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.
If you're looking for more information about Las Vegas, I highly recommend getting a travel guide such asFodors Las Vegasor theUnofficial Guide to Las Vegas 2020.
1 – Lanai-Express

Number one on my list of the best cheap restaurants on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas brings us toLanai-Expressis located in the Fremont Hotel & Casino. The Lanai Express serves a variety of affordable American and Chinese dishes. But you want to come here to enjoy the famous shrimp cocktail. This 1976 shrimp cocktail is still only 99 cents, making it the cheapest meal on my list.
When you pull up at the cafeteria-style counter, be sure to ask for the shrimp cocktail as it's not on the menu. Though it costs less than a dollar and is served in a plastic cup, they sure don't skimp on the shrimp. More than half of the cup is filled with tender, salty shrimp. And it's fresh. Complementing the salty shrimp is a fresh cocktail sauce that's both flavorful and tangy. Mixed with the shrimp and sauce are fresh celery and mint adding texture, flavor and color. At 99 cents, the Lanai Express shrimp cocktail is one of the best deals in downtown Las Vegas.

2 - Binion's Cafe

Binion's Cafe, located in Binion's Gambling Hall, is a no-frills late-night diner that caters to a variety of customers. While their food doesn't win awards, their menu combines affordability with quality. The menu includes breakfast, appetizers, sandwiches, chicken wings, salads, pasta, entrees, soups and desserts. They're also known for Binion's Famous Burger ($8.99), a tradition that dates back over 65 years. There is sure to be something for everyone on the Binion's Café menu. While not the cheapest item on the menu, I like to order Binion's Special ($8.99). This dish comes with two eggs, hash browns and a choice of toast, English muffin or a biscuit. You can add bacon or sausage for an additional $1. With hearty dishes, affordable prices, quick service, and late hours, Binion's Cafe is a great spot in downtown Las Vegas.

3 – Binions Deli

Also located in Binion's Gambling HallBinions Deli, the smaller sister restaurant of Binion's Cafe. They even share some of the same dishes on the menu. With no table service, Binion's Deli is the perfect place for a quick and inexpensive meal. Order from the front and take a seat at the counter or at one of the surrounding tables. Sitting at the counter gives you a front row seat to the chefs at work while the food sizzles on the grill. All food is freshly made to order and is simple. Items include hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, salads, breakfasts, and even frozen pudding.
One of the best offerings on the menu is Binion's famous burger ($5.99), served with a homemade potato salad. Made with perfectly grilled fresh ground beef, this burger tops with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles on a soft toasted bun. If you want cheese, it's an additional $1.29. Bacon is an extra $2. While the burger is far from the best burger I've ever had, it's fresh and tastes homemade. Also, be sure to check out the craft root beer from the nearby Chicago Brewing Company.

4 – American Coney Island

American Coney Islandis a legendary Detroit eatery that has been serving Coney Island hot dogs for over 100 years. In 1917, Greek immigrant Gust Keros opened his restaurant in downtown Detroit. Since then, the store has garnered a following for its Coney dog. These dogs, made with a Dearborn hot dog made with natural casings, chili, mustard, and sweet onions, are served in a warm, steamed bun.
In 2012, American Coney Island opened at The D Casino & Hotel, a Detroit-themed resort on Fremont Street. It was their first location outside of Michigan. The red, white and blue themed restaurant is small but always full, even late at night. What sets the Coney Island Hot Dog ($3.95) apart is the crackling of the hot dog and the blend of secret spices found in chili and dog. The crispy, sweet onions and tangy mustard add to the distinctive flavor that you can't find anywhere else. Aside from dogs, the 24-hour joint serves burgers, gyros, and fries.

5 – Evel-Torte

The first stop for pizza on our list of the best cheap restaurants on Fremont Street brings us to usEve Pie. Evel Pie is a 70's style pizzeria and pub. It is named after stuntman Evel Knievel, best known for his failed jump over the fountains at Caesars Palace. Inside you'll find Evel Knievel memorabilia including motorcycles, statues, photos and a pinball machine. Located in the Fremont East Entertainment District, this pizzeria is one of the best spots in downtown Las Vegas for a slice of New York pizza.
Evel Pie's motto is Live Hard, Ride Fast, Eat Pizza. And like the man himself, the cakes are over the top and big. You can order cakes whole or in pieces. I like to keep it simple and order the Pepperoni Slice ($4.50) for its oily, rich, salty cups of pepperoni. The crust of each slice is thin, chewy, and crispy. The sauce is sweet and tart complemented by the perfect amount of gooey mozzarella. The slices are good to the last bite. Aside from pizzas, the menu offers a calzone, salads, garlic knots, meatballs, wings, and a good selection of cocktails and craft beers.

6 – Chicago Brewing Company

Chicago Brewing Companyis a micro brew pub in Four Queens. If you like handcrafted microbeers, live sports and good food then you've come to the right place. Located in a little corner of the casino, the Chicago Brewing Company feels like a local sports bar that you would find on any corner in America. Dark wood, red brick, and low ceilings add to the cozy and welcoming ambience. The menu features typical pub fare such as sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and appetizers. One of the cheapest items on the menu is The Chicago Dog ($7.99). Made with a wiener dog, sweet relish, onions, tomatoes, sports peppers, and mustard, this dog is like something you would find in Chicago. A generous helping of French fries is served as a side dish. The Chicago Dog paired with a local microbrew is the perfect combination.

7 – Market Street Cafe

Cafe Marktstrasseis a diner in the California Hotel & Casino on Ogden Ave, one block off Fremont Street. The menu at Market Street Cafe features dishes ranging from American classics to Hawaiian specialties. And with many items under $10, like chicken and waffles and cookies and gravy, you might have a hard time deciding what to order. Whether you want an omelette, pancakes, french toast, burgers, sandwiches or a salad you're sure to find it on the menu. Although they are best known for their breakfast, the lunch and dinner plates are great too.
I like to order the Filipino favorite ($9.99). This dish features three eggs and sweet, salty, smoky, tender pork that reminds me of teriyaki. Rice, toasted bread and fried garlic are served as a side dish. While there are cheaper options on the menu, you get a lot of food for your money.
Order what: Filipino Favorite, Chicken & Waffles, French Toast
Cafe Marktstrasse
Address: 12 E Ogden Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89101 (located in the California Hotel & Casino)

8 – Pizzastein

Our second stop for pizza brings us toPizza-Rock, located on Ogden Ave near the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino. Pizza Rock is best known for its extensive menu of Italian and American pizzas and Italian classics. They serve a variety of pizzas cooked in four different ovens. These include Neapolitan, Classical Italian, Classical American, Roman and Sicilian. But they also serve slices of pizza from the counter near the front. Slices are the perfect quick bite to enjoy at one of the outdoor street tables.
While there are many great options to choose from, my pick is the Pepperoni Slice ($5.25). This large slice of pizza has a thin, chewy dough that's crispy and charred on the bottom. The tomato sauce is sweet, light, and tart, while the pepperoni cups are rich and salty. The slice is covered in the perfect amount of melted and toasted mozzarella. The slice is rounded off with herbs such as basil and oregano. This is one of the best looking pieces downtown and it tastes as good as it looks. Pizza Rock also has Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Happy hour specials include appetizers and personal pizzas ranging from $4 to $8.

It seems next to impossible to find prime ribs in Las Vegas these days for less than $10. But if you know where to look, you can still find it. atTony Romas, located at the Fremont Hotel & Casino, you can orderPrime Rib Special for $8.99. This special, which includes a baked potato and vegetables, is available daily from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Although inexpensive, you get an impressive 8oz prime rib cooked to your liking. The meat is smoky and salty with a distinct beef flavor and melts in the mouth. The baked potato may be simple, but it really comes to life when topped with creamy sour cream and flavorful horseradish. If you plan to visit Tony Roma's for this special, arrive early or plan to wait for a table. 10 – Pop-up-Pizza

Our 3rd and final stop for pizza brings us toPop-Up-Pizza. Located in the Plaza Hotel & Casino, this New York pizzeria is popular for its signature pies and slices. Pop Up Pizza uses homemade dough, homemade tomato sauce and fresh ingredients for their pizzas. While you can order a whole cake, I prefer to order by pieces. Slices cost between $4 and $5. These include the easy Crispy Pepperoni Slice ($4.75) with crispy and rich pepperoni, tart but sweet tomato sauce, and whole-milk mozzarella. The crust is chewy, thin and light with a salty and smoky flavor thanks to the perfect amount of char on the bottom. Aside from pizza, Pop Up Pizza serves garlic knots, wings, chicken strips, fried pickles, mozzarella sticks, and a salad, all for under $10. Last spot on my list of the 12 best cheap restaurants on Fremont Street goes toMagnolia Verandais located next to the Chicago Brewing Company in the Four Queens. This cosy, traditional diner overlooks the casino floor. Magnolia's Veranda has a fairly extensive menu. The menu features appetizers, breakfast favorites, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, pizza, salads, entrees and desserts. While there are some pricey items on the menu, there are plenty of options under $10. One of the cheapest yet filling options is the Biscuits and Gravy ($5.99).
